fMRI Obesity

We do not understand fully why people overeat or the mechanisms in the brain which influence how successful people are at losing weight.

This study, Functional Magnetic Resonance Imaging of brain food reward in obesity and its treatment, aims to see how obesity alters the brain’s response to food and how different treatments change this, by comparing people with obesity before and after weight loss treatments with healthy weight individuals.

Participants will undergo brain scans while looking at pictures of food, tasting food, or performing simple tasks, and also complete questionnaires and computer tests outside the scanner.

This study is an important step towards finding out how eating behaviour is altered in obesity and how different weight loss treatments work. It will help with the development of new treatments for obesity.
